Keep airflow clear
Inspect the air filter according to your equipment instructions and replace it when needed. Keep indoor registers unobstructed and remove loose leaves or vegetation around the outdoor unit without opening its cabinet. Follow the manufacturer’s clearance requirements.
What a professional visit checks
A technician can inspect electrical components, coils, drainage, controls and system performance. Describe weak airflow, warm air, unusual cycling or water near the equipment so those symptoms can be investigated.
Refrigerant, electrical and internal equipment work should be left to a qualified technician. A maintenance visit may reveal a separate repair need; ask what is included and approve additional work before it begins.
Schedule before heavy use
Follow your equipment manufacturer’s maintenance schedule. Planning a visit before the cooling season gives you time to address findings before you rely on the AC every day. Maintenance cannot guarantee that a system will never fail.
When to request repair instead
